15 Beaches in Cornwall With Conveniences; A Family Friendly Day Out
Cornwalls rugged coastline is without a doubt its best asset. That being said, the dramatic nature of the cliff faces sometimes doesn’t lend itself to easy access (Pedn Vounder, I’m looking at you!). Here’s a list of my top picks for convenient Cornish beaches. We’re talking car parking, level or sloped access, places to eat and public conveniences – fantastic!
In Cornwalls South Eastern corner, you’ll find Cawsand and Kingsand twin villages. The village has a spacious car park and flat access down to the beach. The beach is surrounded by great eateries with a choice of cafes, shops and restaurants.
Newquays popular hang out, Fistral Beach may be extremely busy in the high season but for good reason. There’s ample car parks close by, toilets and an array of places to eat on both sides of the beach. There’s sloped access to the beach at the Northern end but the Southern end does have several steps to head down.
Gorran Haven has a huge car park at the top of the village and a steady stroll from there down to the beach. There’s several cafes surrounding the beach and conveniences.
Another popular spot, this is one of Falmouths most visited spots. It’s a short walk from the town or the train station but also has car parks close by. There’s level access to the beach plus ample conveniences, cafes and pop up street vendors.
Another popular spot just outside of Falmouth, Maenporth has a car park opposite, level access and has conveniences as well as eateries just beside it.
Mawgan Porth Beach
Just outside of Newquay, Mawgan Porth Beach is tucked in its own little valley. You’ll find a bustling little cluster of eateries, shops and pubs plus conveniences and a car park. There’s level access throughout.
On the South Coast, Pentewan Beach is a popular holiday spot as there’s a big camp site based here. You can park up for the day and enjoy this beach which has conveniences and a few eateries right on site, including the delicious Hubbox!
Poldhu is tucked on the West side of the Lizard Peninsula. This gorgeous cove has a good sized car park just opposite, level access and a cafe which is open 364 days of the year!
Holywell Bay Beach
Between Newquay and Perranporth is Holywell Bay, a stunning beach to visit. The beach has a National trust car park, conveniences and a restaurant on the beach. The beach has incredible sand dunes to clamber but you can walk around the edge for level access.
One of our top surf spots, Polzeath beach is bustling all year round. There’s a few car parks in the area, including parking on the beach itself. Ample conveniences as well as many cafes, pop up vendors, shops and pubs all surrounding the beach. You could stay here for a week and not need to hop in the car!
A somewhat hidden treasure which you could be forgiven for driving past and never noticing it. Porthcothan has a spacious car park with conveniences, there’s level access across the road to the beach and a shop with cafe just at the entrance.
A brilliant spot to set up for the day, Porthtowan Beach has a spacious car park, conveniences and an array of places to eat and drink all only a few steps away from the beach.
Treyarnon Bay Beach
At Treyarnon Bay Beach, you’ll find a spacious car park just above the beach. There’s also conveniences, a shop and a food stall.
At Portreath, near St Agnes, you’ll find a good sizes car park right above the beach. There’s conveniences and an array of places to eat throughout the year.
Watergate Bay Beach
Always a favourite, Watergate Bay is unbeatable. Just outside of Newquay, this world renown beach has a spacious car park, conveniences and a vast array of places to eat and drink through the day and night. There’s slope access to the beach and it’s only a short walk from the car park.
