Afternoon Tea in The Orangery; Duchy Nursery, Lostwithiel
The Duchy Nursery is a much loved spot near Lostwithiel. Starting as a modest little garden centre, it has undergone numerous refurbs over the years and they have just unveiled their latest improvements. Officially opened by Royalty, the new extension offers an extended shopping space, a terrace dining space to the top of the garden and their new Orangery. We headed down to check out these improvements and most importantly, stop off in the Orangery for some afternoon tea!
The Nursery is full to the brim with gorgeous gifts; from local crafts and spirits to children toys, gardening essentials and clothing.
One of our favourite spots was the bee garden. A stunning space full of bee friendly flowers, perfectly positioned seating and an educational space to learn of the importance of protecting our bees. The smell and the colours here were just divine.
After literal hours of wandering around, we headed to The Orangery for our afternoon tea. The space has indoor and outdoor seating, with the beaming natural light, abundant greenery and tranquility that you would expect to find in an Orangery. The decor is simply stunning, with pots of herbs, tropical plants and citrus trees adorning every corner.
How pretty is that! The afternoon tea perfectly complimented the joyful colours of the nursery itself. From handmade scotch egg and piccalilli, seeded rolls and warm scones. The sweet plate was fantastic with lemon drizzle, rhubarb and custard and chocolate ganache so all taste buds were satisfied.
The Nursery is a lovely place to spend an afternoon and it was really dancing in the sunshine. The afternoon tea is a fantastic idea for a celebration or get together with friends and if that’s not your thing, they have their traditional dining space with a full day menu to opt for.
Be sure to head into the local town of Lostwithiel afterwards to enjoy all the independent shops and pretty little river side benches.
