An Adventure On Wheels; Life On The Road This Summer
I’ve always been fascinated with van life and camper vans. From following ‘van-lifers’ on Instagram to watching endless conversion videos on youtube, I was a bit all the idea but no gear. When Camplify reached out and offered us a hire of a camper from their site, it was time to finally try out the gear! Camplify is essentially Air B’n’B for camper vans; owners from all over the country hire out their conversions to adventurers. We chose a beautiful VW T2 from a lovely couple in Devon, scratching that itch I’ve always had to see what these vintage beauties are really like!
Lets take a look at the beautiful Campo!..
A gorgeous covered T2 camper van, adorned in the perfect sea blue for our coastal adventure. She’s complete with; a fold away double bed, two ring gas stove, fridge with freezer compartment, sink with fresh and grey waste water tanks. There’s loads of storage on board plus camping chairs, crockery, cutlery, pans and everything you need for a truly comfortable trip.
We headed to Devon to where Campo is based and met her owners. The process of handing her over was very easy and they gave us a thorough run down of how everything worked. We were also able to leave our car at theirs which was so handy. Once we’d gotten acquainted with Campo, it was time to hit the road! We headed straight back to Cornwall to try out van life for the first time!
First stop was Watergate Bay, one of my favourite lay by’s in Cornwall. We parked up and wandered down to Harbour Beach Bar for some pizza. Bringing it back to Campo and ate it from the comfort of the van, watching the view. A great start!
Once finished, we headed to our destination for the night. I’d been recommended Trevone by some lovely ladies on Instagram and it sounded just perfect. It’s not advertised as overnight parking anywhere online so I think it’s more of a IYKYK situation. We popped into the cafe to ask permission and they kindly gave us a slip to confirm and we paid £20. We found the perfect spot with an amazing view over the beach. With the cafe just a few steps away and open until late, you have all you need for a nights stop off.
The next morning, we woke up to the sky turning pink and cracked the back door open to embrace the sea breeze. Trevone has a fantastic sea pool, so we went for a beautiful swim in the calm and quiet hours of the morning before moving on. Next up, we headed along the coast to Trevose, a lovely National Trust car park with a sea view.
To complete our adventure, we headed inland and explored the moors. We pitched up on a flat spot, invited some friends and just chilled out with all the amenities Campo offers. A truly wonderful weekend.
When we were ready, we returned Campo to Free Bird Campers. The hand over process was very easy. Rob & Tammy gave Campo a quick check over to ensure we had returned her how we found her. After a little chat about our adventure, we waved goodbye and headed home.
This was such a brilliant experience and I cannot recommend giving it a go this summer. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or new to it, it’s a great way to test the waters. There’s a huge array of vans on offer on Camplify, you’ll find something that makes your adventure perfect for you. Head to Camplify to find your perfect home on wheels and if you fancy an adventure in Campo, find her here.
