Where The Fairies Live; Talland Bay Hotel
There may be several hotels throughout Cornwall that offer breathtaking sea views, but not all of them have a magical touch of fairies! Talland Bay Hotel is a whimsical hotel by the sea, with a beautifully landscaped garden, filled with fairies, hidden doors, sneaky creatures and more.
Talland Bay Hotel is above Talland Bay itself; located between Looe and Polperro. Tucked away through narrow lanes, you only appreciate the size and luxury of the plot once you head through the arched door way, passing the little old man on the bench. Stepping down through the garden layers, the most amazing panoramic sea view opens out for you and it’s hard to take your eyes off of it, during the whole stay.
The hotel is a boutique style with every room styled with its own unique theme and decor. We were in Room 20, the ‘Best room in the house’ which offers everything you could think of, ensuring you truly feel at home. The room is complete with large double bed, butchers sink unit with fridge and coffee making facilities, a seating area and TV, huge bathroom with rainfall shower, double sinks and a large bath. There’s a dressing area with wardrobe, vanity and large full length mirror and the best part of the room is the balcony, complete with sofas and a hot tub.
Perfect view across the garden and the sea as the sky turned pink. The hot tub was set ready for us as soon as we arrived.
Talland Bay Hotel has a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, which you can enjoy as staying guests or non staying public. We headed down through our own private entry, at the back of the hotel, and took a seat in front of the view. The drinks menu is vast and well thought out; they have their own gin which is made in collaboration with a local distillery and features pine from the very tree right in front of us.
Dinner is a dining experience; and it truly is an experience. You’re served amuse-bouche, bread and whipped butter and canapés all before your starter arrives. Once main is finished, you enjoy a pre-dessert and once you’re suitably stuffed from dessert, there’s a course of petite fours and coffee.
Waking up at Talland Bay is a dream. We slept with the curtains open so we could take in the morning sunshine as soon as we awoke. After enjoying a cup of tea on the balcony and reading the coffee table books which are provided, we headed down for breakfast. For breakfast, you help yourself to a buffet of fruit, pastries and fresh juices. Followed by your hot breakfast and hot drink of your choice.
Every room in the hotel is decorated differently, with obscure and funky paintings, sculptures and other art pieces. It is a real treat to just wander around and take it all in.
Talland Bay Hotel is unique in all the best ways and is a dream to enjoy for a stay in Cornwall. The cove of Talland is a short but steep walk down the hill, where you can enjoy swimming and water sports as the water is often calm, as well as the Talland Bay Cafe for light lunches.
The best part for a lot of people; Talland Bay Hotel is very dog friendly. Dogs are very much treated as humans here, they’re allowed in all rooms, welcomed to dinner and even cooked breakfast. The local beach is also dog friendly so it really is perfect if you want to holiday with your best friend!
Our visit was very kindly gifted.
