The Colonial, Tolcarne Beach, Newquay
Give me a sea view and I’m happy; give me a sea view, a beautifully decorated room, incredible seafood BBQ and a glorious sunset and I am ecstatic! The Colonial is based on the privately owned Tolcarne Beach. Despite being one of Newquays central beaches, it’s a very calm and tranquil spot and we were very kindly invited to spend the night!
As per the name, there’s a gorgeous colonial style to the hotel. With heritage pieces, Indian inspired artwork and all the intricate touches. We were staying in the Halcyon room which offers a lovely double bed, perfectly positioned sofa in front of a glorious sea view window and a spacious bathroom with roll top bath.
Whether you’re staying the night or not, The Colonial has a gorgeous restaurant to enjoy. The theming extends throughout the dining space whilst also tying in a subtle touch of surf culture. We headed down on a Sunday evening to enjoy their BBQ sessions where we were served a huge platter of incredible seafood and meat, BBQ’d to perfection.
Tropical cocktails and a platter of seafood – what’s not to love! We opted for the mixed platter which had so much good stuff including, lobster, octopus, ribs, chicken and so much more! They also offer a help yourself salad bar.
The beach soon emptied and we enjoyed the sunset in all its glory.
To round off an incredible night, we headed down to the terrace for breakfast. Enjoying a cooked serving whilst the morning waves were calm and peaceful.
The Colonial is a very impressive hotel and based on the beach so you cannot get closer. They offer the hotel rooms and suites, some of the suites even have their own terrace space where you can have your own private piece of the beach.
