The Poppies at Polly Joke Beach
Every May, Polly Joke comes alive with a blanket of beautiful crimson when the poppies are out. Polly Joke, also known as Porth Joke and Pentire, is along the coastline from Crantock village and found on the coastal path between Crantock and Holywell Bay.
When heading to Crantock by car, continue through without turning into the village and you will end up at the Polly Joke car park – you cannot drive any further so you can’t get this wrong! Once parked up, follow the signposts and the gated pathway towards the fields.
The fields are monitored by the National Trust and clear walkways have been made so please don’t walk through the fields and disturb the wildflowers. The poppies bloom around late May, dependant on the Spring season, and can last up until July. The field of red is beautiful in the sunshine and as the golden light breaks through at sunset.
Continuing through the fields, you’ll find yourself at Polly Joke beach and the headland here is beautiful. On this particular day it was dramatic and lively but on a calm sunny day, the beach is beautiful and a great place for a swim.
The fields are a truly beautiful sight and one that must be seen if you’re in the area at this time of year.
